Specifically, I have a program that I have written that does a huge number of data writes, creating lots of temporary files and move chunks of data around. While some may think of the use of a Ramdisk as being purely for speed, I use it mainly for other purposes. In your case, I can see a RAM drive could be more efficient assuming you do not overfill ramdrive to point where it has to page anyway. If you were to create (say) a huge excel sheet, on C drive with all RAM available, that would be more no more efficient than opening excel sheet in a ram drive. All the work is done on the Ramdrive and only the final result needs to be written back to my SSD.Sure, ramdisk is only useful when the app directly writes to drive rather than directly using RAM as its working space. If I find anything interesting, I'll post back here. Your bringing up this topic makes me want to pick up my pace of finding a solution, so I think that I'll start researching this further. In my case, I just built a system with 128GB RAM specifically with the intent of creating a 100GB RAM Drive to be used as temporary storage for a program that does some very disk intensive operations before creating its final output.
